Attunement with Maestro Allaudin Mathieu

Three-classes ~ 90 minutes each

We are grateful to welcome our beloved elder and treasured teacher Allaudin Mathieu to share from the well of his extraordinary transmission as a musician, composer, originator of the Sufi Choir, mureed of Murshid Samuel Lewis and disciple of Pandit Pran Nath.

A note from Allaudin:

Inayat Khan, a musician through and through, often used music as a metaphor for spirituality. He writes: "The whole of life in all its aspects is one single music; and the real spiritual attainment is to tune one's self to the harmony of this perfect music.”

How is it that "life in all its aspects" can be "one single music?" Our class will consider this question from two points of view. We will experience the simplest structures of musical harmony, and we will delve into the meaning of attunement to the harmony of life. Can musical harmony actually clarify life's harmony? Conversely, can a spiritually lived life refine one's music?

I will read from some of my books, including my soon-to-be-published memoir, "The Shrine Thief,” and will, as usual, take great delight in improvising at the piano for you. Questions will be encouraged. And I have no idea what will actually happen.
